Debbie Nelson (pictured, left) was sitting in her late model Honda Accord while pumping gas at the BP gas station located at Eight Mile and Coolidge roads around 11:30 p.m., WDIV-TV in Detroit learned. She was approached by a man with a silver handgun who demanded her car and threatened to kill her if she did not get out of the car, according to Oak Park police.
The carjacker then grabbed Nelson and pulled her out of the vehicle, police said. He reportedly fled in Nelson’s car and headed west on Eight Mile Road.
Nelson reportedly ran into the gas station and called police from a pay phone.
When officers arrived, Nelson gave them the description and license plate number of her car, police said.
Officers located the car in the area of Seven Mile and Greenfield roads. The carjacker was stopped at a traffic light and blocked in by other cars, so he fled on foot when he realized the officers were following him, according to police.
Police took the male 16-year-old Detroiter into custody. Oak Park police are reportedly trying to have the 16-year-old charged as an adult.
Debbie Nelson is known for her controversial relationship with son Marshall Mathers, also known as Eminem, who resides in the metro Detroit area.
