Why I love gangsta rap

Among different styles of rap, gangsta rap is my favorite genre. Although Eminem is my favorite hip hop artist, I do appreciate many old school rappers from the political rap movance, like Ice T , NWA, Public Enemy.
What makes gangsta rap particularly interesting in my eyes is the fact that it is related to ghetto reality. It shows gangsters’ hard life and insecurities. Gangsta rap is revolutionary, it makes society move, it opens people’s mind against injustice and racial discrimination. Gangsta rap comes to hurt people’s closed minded heads, it shocks conservative mentality.
Gangsta rap has less to do with annoying partys, big cars and jewels. It is a huge call for justice. The mirror of the ghetto in its uglyness is here to haunt a rich white man’s head, it is a strong weapon against the Establishment.
Blacks have been enslaved, humiliated and even worst assimilated by Whites. Gangsta rap pictures Black differently : it brings them back to their roots, it shows them they they can be a threat to whites who despise them and belittle them.. They can shoot policemen who discriminate them, they can be a white man’s nightmare if they want to. They are ready ‘at least symbolically- to assassinate deputies and ministers. They have the power to drop bombs on the government.
We need such shock values to fight racial discrimination.
Saul Williams expressed the injustice of the government against black people in his Dj Spooky remix ‘ Not In Our Names ‘ The Pledge Of Resistance ‘ :
We believe that as people living
in the United States it is our
responsibility to resist the injustices
done by our government, in our names
Not in our name
will you wage endless war
there can be no more deaths
no more transfusions of blood for oil
Not in our name
will you invade countries
bomb civilians, kill more children
letting history take its course
over the graves of the nameless
Not in our name
will you erode the very freedoms
you have claimed to fight for
Not by our hands
will we supply weapons and funding
for the annihilation of families
on foreign soil
Not by our mouths
will we let fear silence us
Not by our hearts
will we allow whole peoples
or countries to be deemed evil
Not by our will
and Not in our name
We pledge resistance
We pledge alliance with those
who have come under attack
for voicing opposition to the war
or for their religion or ethnicity
We pledge to make common cause
with the people of the world
to bring about justice freedom and peace
Another world is possible
and we pledge to make it real

A gangsta rapper is not only ‘ gangsta ‘ in his words, he is also an engaged person. A person who is decided to fight against the government’s lies and injustice. The lyrics of Ice T’s song ‘ Colors ‘ may look as a racist song against white people but it must be viewed much much as a stong call against injustice and racial discrimination :
‘ But my true mission is just revenge
you ain’t in my sect, you ain’t my friend
wear the wrong color your life could end
homocides my favorite venge’ ‘

A revenge for being born the wrong color(in a white racist’s mind). A revenge for being hated on and killed by the police.
In Ice T’s lyrics ,there is a situation reverse : Ice T changed the situation to his advantage : he is the leader and the white man appears to have the wrong color. He has the powe rof life or death on this man’s head.
Some people may be shocked. Why so much hatred, so much violence ? Because you were the first to show violence and hatred towards black people and you need to realize it.
Some people even seem to ignore what black people have been through. There was a time,,education was denied to Blacks. There was also a time black graduates were forced to take blue collars jobs’
‘ White America ‘ needed a spokesman. Eminem is engaged in his fight against racial discrimination. His mission is to open suburbans kid’s eyes to the ghetto misery.
Eminem uses the advantage of his color to spread his voice where black M.C’s cannot do it, because they’re(unfortunately) limitated to black channel and radios.
Eminem’s story teaches white men a lesson. He’s been bullied by Blacks and he never retaliated. He has fought to be recognised as a white MC in a mainly black audience. He wanted to be part of the lanscape. Eminem’s story is a lesson of tolerance and it also shows white people that they are not the only ones to be able to hate.
No matter if you’re Black or White, keep it gangsta.
Quoting Fabolous :
‘ Y’all know who
Keepin’ it Gangsta
We come through
Keepin’ it Gangsta
Y’all know how we do
Keepin’ it Gangsta
My whole crew
Keepin’ it Gangsta ‘

Without Me

No contest : the ‘ Without Me ‘ song and video are a subtle masterpiece of work. ‘ Without Me ‘ is my favorite track from the Eminem Show and also Eminem’s most entertaining song ; the video features Obie Trice, Dr Dre, the D12 and Nathan, Eminem’s little brother and of course, both trailer park girls Jenna and Kiana who share the same bed with Eminem.
When ‘ Without Me ‘ came out as a single, Eminem said that it didn’t reflect the whole ‘ Eminem Show ‘ :

Guilty Conscience

‘Guilty conscience’ from the ‘Slim Shady LP’ is a great example of the ingenious work Dr Dre and Eminem can make together. The song was supposed to be called ‘Night and Day’. Eminem was supposed to say the exact opposite of what Dre said.
About his collaboration with Dr Dre on the Slim Shady LP, Eminem hoped it would ‘ help break down the fuckin’ barriers of stereotypes. ‘ Of course, the stereotypes that were meant were racial stereotypes. Unfortunately some of them are still alive.

Superman

Not surprising at all that the Superman song raised a lot of controversy. It is viewed as the most misogynistic of the whole album.
In fact, the song is principally a retaliation against pop singer Mariah Carey who dated Eminem for several months, although Mariah keeps lying and denying it. In 2002, Eminem dated Mariah for several months and when he got tired of their relationship, he called the singer and broke up with her.
We may ask : why would Eminem want to attack her on the track Superman where she gets dissed badly? :
“What you Mariah? fly through twice, / But I do know one thing though, / Bitches they come, they go”.
The real reasons have been hidden for a long time, but J.R Watkins, Kim’s cousin, who enjoys invading Marshall’s privacy, revealed them :
“I found out that Marshall was dating Mariah Carey. But he was very high maintenance. His daughter will come before anyone.
“Mariah started to get jealous. According to him, she was like, ‘Oh fine superdad – just run off.’

This explains a lot. Mariah Carey should have known that Hailie goes first in Marshall’s life. But she probably wanted to have a selfish relationship excluding Eminem’s little daughter.
Eminem takes his role as a father seriously and this attitude honors him.
Obviously, Mariah Carey has felt humiliated by the disses of the song Superman. Obviously, she is also lying about the whole affair, pretending she never dated Eminem.
“Did I have a sexual relationship with him? No, I didn’t. I knew him, I hung out with him a few times, but nothing sexual occurred. I’d admit it if it did, but it didn’t. And that’s why I was so upset about the whole thing, because I was like, `Look, if I had an intimate relationship with the person, that would be one thing, but…’ Maybe he thought because nothing happened he’d look bad or something.”
Eminem look bad? Does he need Mariah to look good ? He can have nearly any woman he wants to and I am pretty sure he wouldn’t have felt annoyed if nothing had happened between both of them.
No matter what happened or did not happen between Mariah C arey and Eminem, Carey belongs to the kind of pop artist I frankly despise. Long before her flying with Eminem, I heard her speaking on MTV and found her very superficial.
This is a typical example of her lies to her public, when she pretends that her sexy image has nothing to do with reality:
“I know I have this image that’s sexy. But I’m basically like Mary Poppins” she says. “That’s my nickname! I’m prudish. It’s like playing dress up. When you go through difficult stuff as a kid sometimes your childhood stays with you. I’ve hung onto that. There was a period when I was in a relationship that was confining, where I had to wear turtlenecks and long pants and that wasn’t me. I broke out of that – around the same time of the “Honey” video, where I jump out of the water like a secret agent – everybody was shocked. But that was the real me coming out.”
Mariah Carey prudish? That’s so laughable from a woman who exposes more than a half naked body on stage. Sex is the only thing she can sell, because she lacks talent. She is certainly beautiful, but brainless.
I sincerely doubt her artistic quality. What should we think about a singer who was payed 28 million dollars by the record company EMI to stop singing?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/1777172.stm
She has also proven to be emotionally unstable in her past and has been hospitalized in psychiatric care for nervous breakdown.
When Eminem threatened to use Mariah’s voice for his next album, Mariah threatened him to call her lawyers. She told the ‘Sun’:
“I don’t think he should do that because it will get him in a bit of trouble with my lawyers.
“If he is thinking of using a voicemail I left a year ago it is crazy.
“It feels like he is engaging in a catfight with me. It’s like dealing with a girlfriend in seventh grade. It’s like fighting with a little girl. It’s childish.”

When Eminem won best actor and best male awards at MTV awards on May the 31 in 2003, he added sarcastically:
I can’t believe I beat Mariah for her role in ‘Glitter’.
Carey’s latest retaliation is a parody of the Eminem Show called ‘The Marionette Show’ where she sang:
“You should’ve never intimated we were lovers/ When you know very well we never even touched each other”
You could hardly believe such statement. J.R Watkins witnesses the contrary.
But Mariah Carey is not the only story behind Superman. The lyrics caused a lot of controversy. The misogynistic content is aimed at a certain category of women; the kind of women who turn around Marshall out of lust.
The Superman video caused a lot of problems because MTV wanted to censor it for a very large part. Eminem decided to boycott MTV and to add the video as a bonus on the 8 Mile DVD.
Of course, the video is aimed at an adult audience, but it is worth seeing, particularly the way Eminem handles Gina Lynn. He does it with a lot of humor( as usual).
Superman shouldn’t be viewed negatively. It is just a story, where Eminem plays women’s most wanted hero.
“Superman”
(feat. Dina Rea)
[Girls voice is Dina Rea]
[Intro]
Oooooh
You high baby
Yeah
Ya’
Talk to me
You want me to tell you something
Uh-huh
I know what you want to hear…
[Chorus A]
Cause, I know you want me baby, I think I want you too
“I think I love you baby”, I think I love you too
I’m here to save you girl, come be in Shady’s world
I want to grow together, let’s let our love unfurl
You know you want me baby, you know I want you too
They call me superman, i’m here to rescue you
I want to save you girl, come be in Shady’s world
“Ooooh boy you drive me crazy”, bitch you make me earl…
[Verse 1]
They call me superman, leap tall hoes in a single bound
I’m single now, got no ring on this finger now
I’d never let another chick bring me down, in a relationship
Save it bitch, babysit, you make me sick
Superman ain’t savin’ shit, girl you can jump on Shady’s dick
Straight from the hip, cut to the chase, I tell a muthafuckin’ slut, to her face
Play no games, say no names, ever since I broke up with what’s her face
I’m a different man, kiss my ass, kiss my lips, bitch why ask
Kiss my dick, get my cash, i’d rather have you whip my ass
Don’t put out, i’ll put you out, won’t get out, i’ll push you out
Puss blew out, poppin’ shit, wouldn’t piss on fire to put you out
Am I too nice, buy you ice, bitch if you died, I wouldn’t buy you life
What you tryin’ to be my new wife, what you Mariah, fly through twice…
[Prechorus]
But I do know one thing though, bitches, they come they go
Saturday through Sunday, Monday, Monday through Sunday yo’
Maybe i’ll love you one day, maybe we’ll someday grow
Till then just sit your drunk ass on that fuckin’ runway ho’…
[Chorus B]
Cause I can’t be your Superman
Can’t be your Superman
Can’t be your Superman
Can’t be your Superman
I can’t be your Superman
Can’t be your Superman
Can’t be your Superman
Your Superman, your Superman…
[Verse 2]
Don’t get me wrong, I love these ho’s
It’s no secret, everybody knows
Yeah we fucked, bitch so what, that’s about as far as your buddy goes
We’ll be friends, i’ll call you again, i’ll chase you around every bar you attend
Never know what kind of car i’ll be in, we’ll see how much you’ll be partying then
You don’t want that, neither do I, I don’t want to flip when I see you with guys
Too much pride, between you and I
Not a jealous man, but females lie
But I guess that’s just what sluts do, how could it ever be just us two
I’d never love you enough to trust you, we just met and I just fucked you…
[Prechorus]
[Chorus A / Chorus B]
[Verse 3]
First thing you say, “I’m not fazed, I hang around big stars all day
I don’t see what the big deal is anyways
You’re just plain old Marshall to me”
Ooh ya’ girl run that game
“Hailie Jade, I love that name, love that tatoo, what’s that say”
“Rot in pieces, uh, that’s great”
First off you don’t know Marshall, at all so grow partial
That’s ammo for my arsenal, i’ll slap you off that barstool
There goes another lawsuit, leave handprints all across you
Good Lordy whoadie, you must be gone off that water bottle
You want what you can’t have, ooh girl that’s too damn bad
Don’t touch what you can’t grab, end up with two backhands
Put anthrax on a tampax, and slap you till you can’t stand
Girl you just blew your chance, don’t mean to ruin your plans…

Still underground

For me, I still feel I’m an underground artist regardless of how many units I sell. The subject matter and the topics I rap about are still underground, they’re still raw. I don’t try to polish up my shit for anybody. I tell it like it is. And when you buy a Slim Shady album, you’re gonna get Slim Shady. You’re not gonna get birds and bees and flowers and trees. You’re gonna get ‘Fuck you, suck my dick, cock-sucking muthafucker’, that’s what you’re gonna get, because that’s what I’m about, and I don’t feel like I have to compromise my style for anybody.

We listeners of Eminem know it very well : even if Eminem is a multimillionaire today, he never forgot his roots. When he goes to his studio and works on his tracks, he is still underground. He still got love for the streets and his language is ghetto.
From the Slim Shady LP to the Eminem Show, he never compromised his style in that way. Of course, the Slim Shady LP sounds very different from the Eminem Show : Eminem has become more mature, and he shares his new gained maturity and introspection with his audience. But basically, Eminem’s language and subject matter is still about ghetto issues. His fight against the American government is similar to Public Enemy’s. The symbol of the assassination of Dick Cheney in the Without Me video talks to people’s consciences.
Some people like the Detroit rapper Backstab the Kingpin may disagree with me. In fact, Backstab who knew Eminem in 1996, prefers Eminem’s former album Infinite and his Slim Shady EP. He is deeply convinced Eminem only had this street attitude in the beginning and that he changed for the worst. I strongly disagree with him on that point. Why ? Because if Eminem really transformed himself into a commercial rapper, he wouldn’t express his political and personal opinions any more, what he does.
Eminem never raps to please you. He says what he has to say, whether you like it or not.
Eminem does not ‘ give a fuck about money ‘, as he states it in ‘ We as Americans ‘ :
“Fuck money. I do not rap for dead presidents. I would rather see the president dead. It is never been said, but I set precedents and the standards and they can not stand it… We as Americans. Us as a citizen. We’ve got to protect ourselves…”
Despite the fact Eminem is wealthy, ( and he has earned this money thanks to his hard work, so please don’t reproach him to be rich now, he perfectly know how it is to be poor. I’ll bring you back to the period when he couldn’t afford diapers for Hailie…) Eminem keeps simple in the way he dresses and also in his words. This man has always kept being authentic and he deserves respect for that.
Of course, his subject matters are not the same in his different albums. But he drops offensive language on all of them. Those albums are not aimed at an audience with weak stomachs. The subject matter differ, for sure, but you are brought back to ghetto life and reality in its roughness. In the beginning, Eminem was talking much more about drugs, his personal frustrations and harsh life conditions. He knew that he could not talk about the same subjects on each album and joked about in the track ‘Kill You’ from the Marshall Mathers LP:
‘They said I can’t rap about bein broke no more
They ain’t say I can’t rap about coke no more…’
Marshall Mathers is an intelligent man. He understood that the rise of his fame wouldn’t allow him to talk about the same subject matter. People would have been tired of him in no time. And they could have ‘justifiedly- reproached him that it was useless for him to talk about his own poverty now that he had some money. Eminem is also very creative and imaginative. He didn’t want to put the same content in the Marshall Mathers LP…but from his first success album to his last album, he knows how to stay controversial…which is indeed a major force! If you’re controversial, people won’t stop talking about you – which increases of course your fame.
The Marshall Mathers LP’s objective was also Eminem’s fight for recognition as a rap artist, he was really tired of being confused with pop artists just because his hair is bleached blonde. This explains his hard attacks against them like those from the Real Slim Shady.
Marshall is also a rebel against some superficial behaviors in the music industry. He doesn’t ‘give a fuck about a Grammy’ and he lets you know about it. His music has never been there to please you, Eminem has the honesty of his own opinions.
The Eminem Show gets more personal, it is much more introspective, but raises so many serious debates about social (mishandled youth for instance) and political issues.
Oh yeah, Eminem is still underground in his language and in his attitude. His wealth hasn’t changed anything. His attitude honors Eminem, because we know that he will always stay true to his roots.
His voice sounds like the voice of an underground prophet. Eminem is engaged and follows in the footsteps of the former political rap movance.
Listen to the sound
The voice of the prophet
From the Underground
Spreads all around
Talking about ghetto people’s deep wound
Just listen to the sound
With the goal to unite
Black and White
Against the government’s supremacy
For the Bush administration
And the whole nation
To acknowledge the existence of white trash
For Bush those news are worse than a plane crash.

Drips

DRIPS
Intro
Obie… Yo… Im sick
Damn… You straight dog?
Chorus
That’s why I ain’t got no time.
For these games and stupid tricks
Or these bitches on my dick.
That’s how dudes be getting sick
That’s how dicks be getting drips.
Falling victims to this shit
From these bitches on our dicks,
fucking chickens with no ribs
That’s why I ain’t got no time…
Verse 1 (Obie Trice)
Yo, I woke up fucked up off the liquor I drunk.
I had a bag of the skunk won in last nights Tunk
pussy residue was on my penis,
Denise from the cleaners, fucked me good,
You shoulda seen this
big booty bitch, switch unbearable, french roll stylin’,
body like a stallion
Sizin up the figure while my shit’s getting bigger,
debatin’ on a fuck or do I want to be her nigga
Caressin’this bitch, plus I’m checking out them tits,
sippin’ on that fine shit I ain’t used to buyin’
I gotta hit it from behind, its mandatory,
like takin’ hoe’s money, but that’s another story
For surely, the pussy on toast after we toast,
her clothes fell like Bishop in Juice
The womb beater, clean pussy eater,
insertin’ my jock in that spot hotter than the hottest block
Don’t Stop! The response I got when I was knockin’ it,
clock steady tickin’, kinky finger lickin’
and can on, semen’s at my tip when she moans.
I gotta slow down before I cum soon
and work that nigga like a slave owner.
When I dropped off my outfit,
she knew I wanted to bone her
She foamin’ at the lips, the one between them hips,
pubic hairs lookin’ like some sour cream dip
without the nacho, my dick hit the spot though,
pussy tighter than conditions of us black folks
We in the final stretch, the last part of sex.
I bust a fat ass nut, then I woke up next
like what the fuck is goin’ on here, this bitch evaporated,
pussy and all, just picked up and vacated
Now I’m frusturated cuz my dick was unprotected,
and Doctor Wesley tellin me I really got that shit
Chorus
Verse 2 (Eminem)
Now I don’t wanna hit no woman,
but this chick’s got it comin’, someone better get this bitch,
before she gets kicked in the stomach
and she’s pregnant, buts she’s eggin’ me on,
beggin’ me to throw her off the steps of this porch
my only weapon is force and I don’t
wanna resort to any violence of any sort.
But what’s she shovin’ me for?
Doesn’t she love me no more?
Wasn’t she huggin’ me four minutes ago at the door?
Man, I’m this close to goin’ toe-to-toe with this whore.
What would you do if she was tellin’ you she wants a divorce?
She’s havin’ another baby in a month, and it’s yours,
and you find out it isn’t cus this bitch has been visitin’ someone else
and suckin’ his dick and kissin’ you on the lips when you get back,
to Michigan, now the plot is thickenin’ worse
cus you feel like you’ve been stickin’ your fuckin’ dick in a hearse
so you paranoid at every little cold that you get,
ever since they told you this shit, you’ve been holdin’ your dick
so you go to the clinic, sweatin’
every minute you in it,
then the doctor comes out lookin’ like Dennis the Menace
and it’s obvious to everyone in the lobby it’s AIDS,
he ain’t even gotta call you in his office to say it
so you jet back home, cus you gon’ get that hoe,
when you see her, you gon’ bend her fuckin’ neck back, yo
cus you love her, you never would expect that blow,
Obie told you the scoop,
how could she stoop that low?
Jesus, I don’t believe this,
bitch works at the cleaners,
bringin’ me home diseases,
swingin’ from Obie’s penis
she’s so deceivin’,
shit this hoe’s a genius,she g’d us…
Chorus
I’m Busy
Fuck these Bitches
Fuck’em all, Get Money
Shady Records, Obie Trice
Eminem, muthafucka
New millenium shit… Yeah
Turn this shit off
Turn this shit the fuck off
How many parents have claimed against the violent lyrics of the song ‘Drips’? But how many of them parents have taken time to read them carefully? I have ‘ and I consider ‘Drips’ as a warning towards young men not to have unprotected sex- which is a good thing.
The song is all about treason, about a behavior that is typical to a certain category of women. Obie and Eminem are playing the role of two dummies who have been the victim of the same woman who made them believe they were unique while she was playing with each other’s feelings and bodies.
The lyrical content appears to be misogynistic- at first sight. Eminem and Obie are men and they describe an untrustworthy ‘slutty’ feminine behavior. I can relate to similar masculine behavior and frankly I don’t see why I should get offended by the lyrical content of ‘Drips’. When men act like this, I also want to punch them right in the face and there is nothing wrong about it. But I guess some closed minded people would be ready to call me an ‘androgynist ‘ for this statement I made!
Aids is a real danger and young people are more likely to understand a warning coming from their favorite artist then from their parents.
There are probably also some allusions to Kim who has been caught cheating on Eminem :
‘ Man, I’m this close to goin’ toe-to-toe with this whore.
What would you do if she was tellin’ you she wants a divorce?
She’s havin’ another baby in a month, and it’s yours,
and you find out it isn’t cus this bitch has been visitin’ someone else
and suckin’ his dick and kissin’ you on the lips when you get back,
to Michigan, now the plot is thickenin’ worse
cus you feel like you’ve been stickin’ your fuckin’ dick in a hearse
so you paranoid at every little cold that you get,
ever since they told you this shit, you’ve been holdin’ your dick
so you go to the clinic, sweatin’
every minute you in it,
then the doctor comes out lookin’ like Dennis the Menace
and it’s obvious to everyone in the lobby it’s AIDS,
he ain’t even gotta call you in his office to say it
so you jet back home, cus you gon’ get that hoe,
when you see her, you gon’ bend her fuckin’ neck back, yo
cus you love her, you never would expect that blow…’

But the most important message to young people is not to have unprotected sex, this is the main lesson to learn from ‘Drips’. To quote Eminem:
“Dont do drugs, dont have unprotected sex, dont be violent. Leave that to me.”
If you understand the last sentence was meant sarcastically, you will fully get the message of the song!

Eminem : a phenomenon in rap history

We may ask : what makes Eminem appear as such a phenomenon in rap music ? What are the main reasons of his success in the music industry ?
If you ask me, I’d say : Eminem himself.
His personality, his high level of verbal skills, his attitude (he never does anything just to please you), his originality, his great understanding of the youth (the mishandled youth in particular), his criticism against the American government’s policy.
Some people may argue that his success is due to his skin color which is only partially true. Eminem owes his first success to a black man : Dr Dre. Eminem is also surrounded by the right people who know how to intelligently market his products like his friend and producer Dr Dre, his manager Paul Rosenberg.
But he owes his success much more to his talent and to his hard work.
The fact that he’s a white M.C certainly contributes to attract a larger audience. I was myself surprised to see a white M.C rapping ( so well) when I first discovered him in his ‘ Stan ‘ video. That increased my curiosity and made me want to know more details about his music and his biography. But what really impressed me in the end were his verbal plays. Not even his worst enemies could deny Eminem is a talented wordsmith and those who deny his talent usually do it out of jealousy.
From the beginning of his career, Marshall has been very clever in attracting the public’s attention. He has this great ability to captivate people and the public exposure of his life as a show make of him the most talked about rapper.
Marshall has never been afraid of speaking his mind and the fact that he has the courage of his opinions made him win a lot of hearts, but it also increased his enemies’ list for a large part. The exposure Eminem gives of his life is also a big reality show and we all know the world is in need of truth and reality. Since i was a child, I grew up despising artists and people of the show business, because most of them looked so fake and so superficial. When I first discovered Eminem, I was amazed : here is a man from Detroit, who is not ashamed of his past, of being ‘ white trash ‘. He calls things by their names and shows pictures of himself carrying a big garbage bag on his back. Here is a man, who has the courage to say that poverty does not only exist among Blacks in America. He points out the existence of the ‘ white trash ‘. Here is a man who is not ashamed of coming from the white poor classes. Here is a man who also has the courage to defy the Bush administration !
Eminem’s great personality alone explains his success for a large part. Eminem is real, he never fakes himself, he doesn’t ‘ give a fuck ‘ about what you think, he doesn’t ‘ give a fuck about a Grammy ‘. Eminem is not conventional, he hates ceremonies. Even some fans felt offended because he didn’t attend to a Grammy or an Award ceremony this year in May 2003, because they knew he preferred spending some time with Hailie than going to the ceremony. Offended fans, how can you be so selfish and say Eminem was disrespecting you ? Do you realize that he barely spends time with his daughter ? It’s rather a good sign that he privileges Hailie to a ceremony.
But you must see Eminem on stage and he will convince you totally : no TV live retransmission of his concerts will make you feel the same. Eminem on stage is amazing : he is such a good entertainer. The athmosphere of his concert is divine, you can feel like an extraordinary alchemy between Marshall and his audience. At Paris Bercy, he performed for an hour and a half, and I was captivated from the beginning to the end. And I am not the only fan who felt like this. We were around 17 000 persons to feel like this. All the artists performing at Paris Bercy were great, but when Eminem came in, he was acclaimed like nobody else and the athmosphere was electrifying, we didn’t want the show to end, we could have spent the whole night listening to him.
What is Eminem’s receipt of his success ? The answer is clear : the man himself !

Adults express about Eminem

Adults express thoughts about Eminem
Many people wondered how I could be an Eminem fan, being an adult. I’ve been asked so many times how somebody of my generation could love ‘ such kind of music ‘ and how I could appreciate a ‘ women hater ‘ and a ‘ dumb guy ‘ such as Eminem’
Most of the time, people who ask me those questions are totally ignorant of the artist and just repeat what they have heard from the media.
This is a typical comment of a mom against Eminem that I found on a ‘ shut up Slim website ‘. But this person is the one who needs to shut up, because her comments are really pointless’
“As a mother of two teenager’s I hate mather’s music because it is so vulgar. I don’t think even savy adults can truly understand the insipid, pervasive message of hate Mathers is cranking out. As a citizen, I appreciate the artist’s right to free speech. Some of his lyrics are viable but they are so apprehensible and sound so terrible, I can’t listen to him.
When I went on the web looking for info on Eminem, mostly I found homogenous product- meaning the spin machine is plugging up the world with another hunk of garbage that the masses are supposed to swallow. (There are not many anti-Mathers sights or objective sights. I went looking for sociological studies on Mathew Mathers-nothing!) Mathers is not saying anything new, he has big corporations kissing his ass and pushing his crap down our throats. It is the modern version of the Emperor that Wore No Clothes. He can’t sing, he can’t dance. Does his music have social and political value? Is it art? What is he trying to communicate? That the World revolves around his problems and attitudes? Is his message viable? To some extent, but “in your face music” shuts many off, especially those who are intelligent to know that people who are usually screaming about issues are ignorant and do not know enough, feel enough, or wise enought to make a social/political commentary. There is no realism in Slim Shadys life.” – d
First of all, I’d like to state that I am not the only adult Eminem fan. And sorry to disappoint this person, but I’m a graduate with a master’s degree who happens to enjoy and to fully get Eminem’s dark sense of humor. I have met some adult fans, among them students and educated people.
This mom makes me laugh : she went looking for what ? Sociological studies on ‘ Mathew Mathers ‘ ? Who is ‘ Mathew Mathers ? ‘
Sorry, but I only know about Marshall Mathers.
And yeah, Marshall’s music has a social and political value : it is related to Black people’s history and among many rappers, Eminem raises social and political issues. She did not even have the curiosity to look for the artist’s right name. I usually allow myself to criticize a subject I really went deep into. He can’t sing ? Haha, Eminem is no singer, he is a rapper and sorry to disappoint you, he can rap and has a high level of skills. He can’t dance ? He’s an expert breakdancer and in my opinion he dances well. I love the way he moves on stage.
But the dumbest sentence is to come : ‘ There is no realism in Slim Shadys life.’ ‘ No realism? What do you want more from Eminem who nearly exposed his whole life details in their roughness in his albums?
Go back to your studies…study Eminem’s lyrics and then come back to talk about him…Because you really have no idea about what you’re talking about!
But somebody else expressed an opposite (and much more positive) opinion on Eminem:
‘ I am a caring, understanding, compassionate ADULT (30+) who enjoys Eminem. His work is art because it makes us think, and shows us all how screwed up this world really is.
I find his music to be comforting, that I am not the only one who is frustrated with the reality of our society and I wished I could yell “Wake up!” to the world myself.
Sodomy and “Defense of Marriage” laws do more damage than Slim’s violence but you don’t hear this kind of outcry against Focus on the Family. ‘

Despite the fact Eminem’s music is aimed at an adult audience, many kids belong to his fanbase. There is nothing wrong with it and I think most of the kids are able to get his jokes.
Talking about the underage Eminem fans I have been in touch with, they are normal people ( underage Eminem fans are often described as crazy).
Some of them are experiencing serious problems in their homes and Eminem’s music has been a real therapy to them. The major danger comes from closed minded suburban parents who consider Eminem as the devil and who reject him systematically. It’s easy for their kids to misinterpret the rapper’s words, because they are far from the ghetto reality.
I myself have discovered the talented artist thanks to my son in 2001 and his music has operated miracles in my life.
Parents, all you need to do is to open your mind !

White chicks can spit (by me)

You doubt me ?
You disagree ?
Let me show you what
I’ma kick your butt
And your mouth will be shut
I’ma drive you nuts
While verbally kicking your butts
Your face I will knock
Round the clock
You’re unable to stand the shock
Who are you trying to mock ?
Look-you’ve lost your sock !
You cannot even walk
I’m breaking you down like a piece of chalk
You’re talking about color
My mind is multicolor
Who gives a fuck if I’m white ?
With me wanna start a fight ?
This is for you an invite
My words can bite
Like a mad dog
You remain hidden in the fog
I’ma make you swallow a Sad-Ham
While you’ll be dancing on my jam
With your fake words trying to spam
Don’t even try to slap me, damn
This is for you a preliminary exam
Don’t talk about uncle Sam
You’re so full of crack
Trying to knock back
Like if I didn’t know Tupac
You’re so gay
I love NWA
And even if my fave is Shady
Who happens to be a white MC
I’ll never forget about Public Enemy.
